Shame Shame Shame WTF what is going in India...???

GUWAHATI: Guwahati on Friday became a spectacle with large billboards displaying TV grabs of the five culprits involved in the Monday night incident of a mob molesting a teenage girl in the city.

An NGO, Assam Public Works, installed the billboards cautioning people about the culprits and the possibility of repetition of such criminal acts.

City senior superintendent of police Apuraba Jibon Baruah appealed to the people to come forward in helping the police identify the culprits involved in the act. He assured that the identity of the informer(s) would be kept secret.

"Around 20 persons were seen in the TV footages involved in the incident and we have so far identified 11 of them and arrested four," he said.

The police have also taken help of the Meghalaya police as some of the identified but absconding culprits are suspected to have taken refuge in the neighbouring state.

The victim, a student was attacked by a mob of about around 20 men when she was heading home after attending a party at a bar. Video footages running on local TV channels showed the mob beating her and trying to strip her on the GS Road. The act continued for around half an hour before a police team rescued the girl and handed her over to her family.

Amar Jyoti Kalita (34), the kingpin of the molestation was identified first by his colleagues at Amtron, the state government's IT development agency, after the TV channels broadcast the incident. He was immediately sacked from his job.

A day after the incident, police arrested Dhanraj Basfor, a cleaner at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. The next day, police nabbed two more, Puspendu Das alias Bubul Das and Bikash Tiwari. While Bubul Das runs an eatery in the city, Tiwari is an employee at a cloth store. Mohammed Hafizuddin, a mason, was arrested on Friday.
